GRAMMY SAVVY: Artist Profile – Janelle Monáe

Who: Janelle Monáe is a refreshing soul singer/songwriter with one EP (Metropolis: Suite I -The Chase) and one studio album (The ArchAndroid). She’s currently signed to the Wondaland Arts Society in conjunction with Bad Boy Records. Monae first appeared on Big Boi’s Purple Ribbon All-StarsGot Purp? Vol 2 compilation (2005) on the songs ‘Time Will Reveal’ and ‘Lettin’ Go’. She was nominated previously for Best Urban/Alternative Performance for ‘Many Moons’ which appeared on her commercially released EP. In 2010, she also won ASCAP’s Vanguard Award and the Centric Award (Soul Train Awards).
